A Safe Space For Women,
Run By Women
Our organisation offers a safe space for local women and their children and a range of services which are designed to help them rebuild their lives after crisis and achieve their full potential.
Our purpose built centre – the first of its kind in the UK – is based on the corner of Preston Road and Bilton Grove in East Hull and is painted in Suffragette colours – purple, green and white, which means we are known locally as the Purple House.

How We Can Help You
Our Story
How We Got Started
The organisation started in December of 1999, when a group of local women got together to help the women of Preston Road Estate. Driven by a strong belief in empowering women and a golden thread of feminism running through all its activities, the organisation became known as Winner – Women Improving Now Not Ever Retreating – fulfilling an important role in the overall regeneration of the Preston Road area in Hull, as part of the New Deal for Communities.
Where We Are Now
Winner’s current Preston Road building was designed by the women using our services, our staff and volunteers and the purple, white and green colours were chosen to honour the Women’s Suffragette movement.
Get Involved
Winner is changing the narrative of how women should be helped and supported through the implementation of self-sustainable practices, minimising the reliance on donations and grants, and firmly placing the power to control their own future in women’s own hands.
