Volunteering Opportunities
Charity Shop
The charity shop helps to support the running of Preston Road Womens Centre and they also make sure it is affordable for families on low income. The charity shop is run by our volunteers. It is really rewarding and develops your interpersonal skills. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer then apply for our volunteer training, which is held in Purple House. We are open as much as possible Monday-Friday 10am-3pm and some Saturdays, volunteers permitted.Reception
The reception at the centre is staffed completely by volunteers at the moment and helps the safe running of the centre. Volunteers that cover the centre’s reception see it as a great learning curve. This is a skill needed in many jobs and volunteering will give you a chance to develop in this area and to add this to your CV.
Management Committee
This is a group of women who volunteer to be members of the management committee and meet up once a month to discuss the work of the centre, the progress made in the last month and to make plans for the future. The women are from the local area and other organisations. They work with centre staff and are the main decision making group in the centre.
Training
To become a volunteer at the centre there is some set training to complete. The main compulsory training is the centre’s Volunteer Training course. Depending on what type of volunteering you want to get involved with, you might need to complete Sexual Health Training, Domestic Violence Training and any other relevant training. Following the appropriate training would then shadow another worker for a set period of time, then, when all persons are confident and happy you can begin your specific volunteering. The centre also offers training focused on individual personal development. After women have gained experience as a volunteer, they can use their new skills and confidence to progress into education or employment. Come join us and see how far you get.
