Sex Safe

The sex safe project is a confidential, pro-choice service which offers information and support on a range of sexual health issues including, sexual health, sexually transmitted infections, sexuality and relationships.  The project also provides free condoms, pregnancy and Chlamydia testing, and emotional and practical support, for example how to access sexual health screening, emergency contraception and information and support with regards to unplanned pregnancies.  The project is also able to directly refer women for terminations.

The project runs a drop in service which can be accessed Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm.  We offer street based sexual health information on Preston Road and surrounding areas (including free condoms to young men and women).  Monday 6pm – 8pm outside East Park gates and the skater park, Tuesday 7pm – 9pm Preston Road and Marfleet area and Wednesday 7pm – 9pm Southcoates Lane and Newbridge area.

The project is currently running a cyber-babies program which offers young people the opportunity to experience parenthood in a safe environment.  We also work closely with the schools and colleges and run regular stalls at Wilberforce College; these are on Tuesday and Thursdays 11.30am – 1.30pm, during term time.

The sex safe project runs an accredited sexual health course; this provides women and young men, the opportunity to cover such issues as: sexuality, sexual health and sexually transmitted infections, and this information allows young people to make informed choices about their own sexual health and sexuality.  We also offer a ‘Strong young women’s’ training, this aims to build young women’s confidence and self-esteem around sexual relationships, and ‘leave it til later’, this course offers young people to opportunity to explore relationships and delay early sex.
